Sacred Heart Consecration: Day 5

Heart of Jesus, Holy Temple of God

In this lesson, Annabelle Moseley, poet; author; and Professor of Theology, leads Day 5 of the 33-Day “Our House of the Sacred Heart” Consecration and teaches “The Lesson of the Garbage” as a real-life example of taking on a Goliath. Beautiful prayers, devotions, art, stories, scripture and poetry are included in this podcast that won’t take much of your time… but is time well-spent.

Today’s Challenge

Get lost in Him. Lose yourself there. Just like the great poets and artists throughout time, lose yourself in the stars, the handiwork of God. Lose your fears, your stress, instead of being caught up in the worries of the day… but how? Well, instead of getting lost in anxiety, don’t forget to forget yourself. Look up at the stars! Or enter a church and gaze at the tabernacle! Or find a painting of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and contemplate how His heart is also a Holy Temple.

Questions of the Day

  • Do you know a friend or family member who showed courage and compassion as a caregiver of a loved one? Was it you?
  • When did you pray during an unlikely time?

Many of us have lost loved ones this year and can relate to Annabelle’s stories. People say that life doesn’t come with a handbook; Annabelle proves otherwise, by taking a story from the Bible, in this case Job; she incorporates it with a relatable story from her own life and somehow Annabelles talent guides you into the stories of your own life…helping you find comfort and joy through reflection and prayer. Brilliant!

My greatest example of someone who showed great courage and compassion is my dear Mother. She went back to work in a factory when my Father became ill. Working in a factory took its toll on my Mother but she always tenderly cared for my Father with an endless amount of compassion and love that was like a bottomless pit. It is no wonder that when my Mother became ill, I stepped up to take care of her with the same amount of love and compassion as she showed to my Daddy. The night before my Mother was released from the hospital, I was in a car accident. I remembered praying to God – What am I to do? My mother needs me more than ever. In God’s infinite mercy , I had my answer – I was able stay home to take care of Mom until Jesus called her home. The times that I prayed was when after washing Mom and fixing her breakfast, I would give her the Pieta Prayer Book and her Rosary and sit by her as we prayed to God. I think of my Mom and Dad every day especially when I am in prayer, which because of the Pandemic is many more hours than before. God is good!

Many of us will be chosen as caregivers. we do it out of love, compassion and because it is the right thing to do. we are here to do God’s work. The lessons and gifts from your grandparents has shown us they became personal with God. Through obedience and discipline which was in the lesson of the shoes we become focused on the goals we hope to attain while caring for us and others we love. Like your grandmother we aspire to understand God and His presence in nature. Looking up at the heavens and all of God’s creative works and having that sincere relationship with Him will alleviate the constraints of pain and suffering as we offer them to God.
